Dear Parents,

Welcome to one of the most exciting years your child will have in his/her school career.  First grade brings a year of amazing academic change into a child's life. A great amount of knowledge is acquired during the first grade school year. Children begin the year with readiness skills and end the year with fluent reading, writing, language, spelling, and math skills.  First graders are eager to learn and accept new challenges.
So much happens in First Grade!  Because of this, parents as well as children may have some apprehensions about what will happen.  It is extremely important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes.  Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready.  Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in my first grade classroom.  I will do all I can to ensure that your child has a successful,  happy year and develops a lifelong love of learning.
You know your child better than anyone else.  For that reason, it is important for us to communicate throughout the school year.  There are many ways you can be involved in your child's education - from assisting your child with his/her with homework to volunteering to help in the classroom or school.
Please know that I am always available if you have any questions or concerns. I care about your child and want him/her to be successful.  I look forward to a happy and productive school year with you and your child.  Thank you for trusting me with your most precious treasure.
